The North Canton, Ohio, ATM vendor said Wednesday that PNC upgraded some of its ATMs to support the enhancement last year and plans to begin replacing other ATMs this year with machines that have this feature. Diebold called the sale a multimillion-dollar investment.

The ATMs display check images on the screen and printed on receipts. The images can also be transmitted to a processing center.

James S. Walker, a senior vice president at PNC, said in the press release that, "for many years, Diebold has assisted us in developing new technology to better serve our customers." In 1992, PNC began using the first Diebold ATMs with the check-scanning feature.
