In Brief: Pru CFO Is Trade Group Chief

The Group of North American Insurance Enterprises in New York said Friday that it had elected Richard J. Carbone, the chief financial officer of Prudential Financial Inc., to be its chairman.

The trade group works to influence international accounting standards and to increase communications between insurers doing business in North America and the International Accounting Standards Board and its U.S. counterpart, the Financial Accounting Standards Board. Mr. Carbone joined Prudential as CFO in 1997.

The group models proposed accounting standards, analyzes and comments on them, and coordinates with end users of financial reports. Its members include companies from among the largest global insurers and multinational corporations. Member companies write all lines of insurance, including life, property and casualty, and reinsurance.
