In Brief: S.C.'s 1st United Opens Community Bank Unit

First United Bancorp. opened a community bank subsidiary here last month. The new institution, called the Community Bank of Greenville, opened with $1 million in deposits and has issued more $500,000 in loans.

Community Bank is the fourth subsidiary opened by First United in the past 12 years. The bank's chief executive is Frank W. Wingate, who previously worked as a division manager with Bank South of Atlanta.

First United has $194 million of assets and is based in Anderson, S.C.
