In Brief: Small Maryland Bank Dropping 'National'

Annapolis National Bank of Annapolis, Md., is changing its name and has applied for a new charter in an attempt to emphasize its local roots and focus.

The $130 million-asset subsidiary of Annapolis National Bancorp said Sept. 29 that it will become BankAnnapolis Nov. 1. The five-branch, federally chartered commercial bank expects to receive the charter by the end of the month.

"We have no national aspirations, so the 'national' is coming out of our name," said bank president and chief executive officer, Mark H. Anders, in a news release. "Our goal is to be the best community bank in Annapolis."
