NEW YORK - The Smart Card Forum, a multi-industry organization working to accelerate the acceptance of chip technology, has signed up 10 new members.
Chase Manhattan Corp., Scotiabank, Celo Communications, Identrus, Maosco, Publicard, RSA Security Inc., and Wave Systems Corp., have joined the forum as principal members, giving them a vote on the board and seat on the executive committee. Robbins Co. and 02 Micro International Ltd. have joined as auditing members.
"These new members have joined the forum at a very exciting time for smart card applications," said Donna Farmer, president and chief executive officer of the group. "Electronic commerce applications that have high assurance requirements are rapidly increasing, and as a result we are seeing strong demand for use of smart cards with PKI," or public key infrastructure.
