A scanner provider and a software vendor are collaborating on a way for banks to monitor remotely the scanners merchants use for check imaging.

Digital Check Corp., a Northfield, Ill., scanner provider, announced the partnership Friday with Silver Bullet Technology Inc. of Pensacola, Fla. The companies will offer a customized version of Silver Bullet's Scout diagnostic software that is compatible with Digital Check's TellerScan machines.

The new software will let support personnel assess the performance of scanners, and warn when service is needed, from a central location, Digital Check said.

Remote capture lets merchants convert paper checks into images and transmit them to a bank for deposit.

John Gainer, an executive vice president with Digital Check, said in a press release that the new software will be "increasingly important as institutions use remote deposit capture to acquire customers outside of their traditional geographies."
