In Brief: TIAA-CREF Switches Life Insurance Chiefs

TIAA-CREF, a financial services organization and leading provider of retirement services in the academic, research, medical, and cultural fields, said that it had appointed Bret L. Benham to succeed Bertram L. Scott as president and CEO of TIAA-CREF Life Insurance Co.

Mr. Benham is to take charge of administration, product development, systems, and finance functions for TIAA-CREF Life's insurance and individual annuity products, the company said on Monday. These include term, universal, survivorship universal, variable universal, and survivorship variable universal life insurance as well as individual fixed, variable, deferred, and immediate annuities.

Mr. Scott is now a TIAA-CREF executive vice president for strategy, implementation, and policy. Mr. Benham, who is based in Charlotte, joined TIAA-CREF in 2004 and is a corporate senior vice president for insurance and financial protection products.

Before joining the New York-based company, Mr. Benham was the senior vice president of life insurance at Fidelity Investments in Boston, where he led the company's entrance into the variable universal life marketplace.
