In Brief: Total System Plans British Data Center

COLUMBUS, GA. - Aiming to expand into Europe, the prominent credit card processor Total System Services Inc. has hired a British data management company to help start a computer center in England.

VData Limited, headquartered in London, will provide Total System with a site in an undisclosed location in England. Total System expects to be installing equipment in September. The data center is slated to be up and running by yearend.

"By making this European data center commitment, TSYS is further demonstrating its belief in the importance of Europe to its future," said Total System president Philip Tomlinson.

Total System will become the largest VData client. VData will supply an uninterrupted power source, ventilation and other environmental features needed for a data center. Total System will bring the hardware and software. "This company is in the business of providing ready environments for people like us," said Lynn Drury, a group executive responsible for international services.
