Total System Services Inc. announced Thursday that it has hired Ralf Muellar, a veteran payments executive, as director of business development for Central and Eastern Europe.
The Columbus, Ga., company has struck several deals in Europe in the past year and has often said the region is a critical element of its growth strategy. Mr. Muellar had been in charge of national and international sales for the German point of sale terminal vendor El-ME AG.
TSYS announced a deal in November to process card transactions for Rabobank Group, the largest credit card issuer in the Netherlands, and said then that it was in tests with four other European banks. The company also handles transactions for Royal Bank of Scotland and Bank of Ireland.
"TSYS has long maintained that European expansion is a strategic priority in the overall growth of our company," Kelley C. Knutson, the managing director of TSYS Europe, said in a press release.
TSYS is majority-owned by the $31.3 billion-asset Synovus Financial Corp.
