UnionBanCal Corp., the holding company for San Francisco-based Union Bank of California, said it had hired Michael A. Janes to be the chief executive officer of its insurance subsidiary, UnionBanc Insurance Services Inc.
Mr. Janes joins the agency from the West Coast operation of the Glen Allen, Va., insurance brokerage Hilb, Rogal & Hobbs Co., where he was a regional director, UnionBanCal said on Thursday. He started his insurance career at Hartford Insurance Co. in 1981 before joining Hilb Rogal in 1986 and most recently managed a staff of 520 insurance professionals. He reports to Johannes Worsoe, an executive vice president of Union Bank and the chairman of UnionBanc Insurance.
In February, UnionBanc Insurance announced the consolidation of its insurance operations under one umbrella. It has nine offices in California and one in Portland, Ore. The unit's annual revenue exceeds $80 million, and it employs 415 insurance professionals.
