In Brief: U.S., El Salvador Work on Housing

SAN SALVADOR — Mel Martinez, the secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, announced Tuesday that the United States and El Salvador have agreed to collaborate and exchange information on housing and community development.

“There’s a great deal we can learn from each other, such as how best to design housing finance programs for low-income households, construct affordable homes, and establish urban and regional economic development programs,” Mr. Martinez said at a press conference in El Salvador.

The Bush administration has also pledged $110 million in earthquake relief for El Salvador over the next 10 years.
