SAN FRANCISCO Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Walmart.com have joined Verified by Visa.

Under this voluntary program from Visa U.S.A., consumers register their card with their bank and select a password. When they shop at a participating online merchant, a prompt asks for the password to confirm identity. Walmart.com has joined the ranks of merchants now offering this.

Enhancing payment security is critical to helping consumers fully enjoy the convenience of shopping online, said Jim McCarthy, the senior vice president of new market deployment for Visa U.S.A. Our agreement with Walmart.com emphasizes our shared commitment to providing consumers with added convenience, comfort, and security.
