In Brief: Visa in Payment Deal for New Debit Card

SAN FRANCISCO - Visa U.S.A. has signed an agreement to provide OmniAmerican Federal Credit Union in Texas with an integrated payment service that will feature the new Visa check card II, a signature and PIN-based debit product.

Visa plans to combine check card II with its debit processing service and with access to the Visa/Plus Global automated teller machine network, as well as to Interlink, its debit point of sale network.

Visa said $600 million-asset OmniAmerican, which has 12 offices in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, will be one of the Southeast's largest issuers of the new product.

OmniAmerican has issued more than 35,000 of the check cards since Visa introduced them in the first quarter.

The 180,000-member credit union generated $26.3 million of sales from the cards in the second quarter, and their active-account rate for the period was 70%, compared with the national average of 55%.
