In Brief: Wachovia Unit Fills New Finance Post

Wachovia Securities announced Tuesday that it had named Jeff Armstrong, a managing director and six-year veteran of the company, the head of corporate finance.

Mr. Armstrong, who is based in Charlotte, Wachovia Corp.'s headquarters city, is to report to Kevin Roche, the head of investment banking. The corporate finance post is a new one at the company.

In his new role, Mr. Armstrong will be responsible for the 12 investment banking origination groups - consumer and retail, defense and aerospace, energy and power, financial institutions, health care, industrial growth, information technology and business services, media and communications, real estate, technology, international, and strategic advisory.

He joined Wachovia in 1999 from Salomon Smith Barney, where he was a managing director in the financial sponsors group. His most recent post at Wachovia was as head of the mergers and acquisitions and financial sponsors group, which included responsibility for the equity private placements group. Wachovia Securities is the trade name for the corporate, investment banking, capital markets, and securities research businesses of Wachovia Corp. and its subsidiaries.
