In Brief: Wamu Hires Ex-Countrywide Tech Chief

SEATTLE — Washington Mutual Inc. announced Tuesday that Jeremy V. Gross had been hired to lead its technology efforts.

Mr. Gross spent seven years at Countrywide Credit Industries Inc. of Calabasas, Calif., where he was chief technology officer. He was most recently group executive of technology, operations, and e-commerce at Australia’s Westpac Banking Corp.

He is expected to assume his new responsibilities in June, succeeding longtime chief information officer S. Liane Wilson, who will be a consultant to Washington Mutual.
