In Brief: Wells' Acordia Hires 2 Execs from Rival Marsh

Acordia Inc., the big insurance broker owned by Wells Fargo & Co., said Friday that it had hired two executives from rival Marsh Inc. to take regional responsibilities in the Southeast and East.

Julian E. Smiley Sr. was named a senior vice president in Acordia's southeastern region -- Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Florida. And Mike Gallagher was named a senior vice president, regional property claims practice leader in Acordia's Boston office.

Mr. Smiley was most recently the commercial-client practice leader responsible for business at 11 Marsh offices in the Southeast. Before that, he had overseen 17 offices in the South.

In his new role, Mr. Gallagher will support sales and customer service needs. At Marsh, he was a vice president, senior property claim consultant with specialties in real estate, retail, aviation, health care, and manufacturing.

Acordia is headquartered in Chicago; it is the world's fifth-largest insurance brokerage and the largest bank-owned broker in the United States, with more than 150 offices in 38 states.
