In Brief: Wells Fargo Eyes 3 States for Expansion

Bloomberg News

LOS ANGELES - Wells Fargo & Co. would like to expand into Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma, the bank's No. 2 executive said.

"There are probably only a few states we'd particularly like (in order to) fill out our network," Wells Fargo vice chairman and chief operating officer Leslie S. Biller said in an interview. "We'd like to be in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Other than that, most of our focus is filling in the existing markets."

Biller declined to discuss specific takeover targets.

Wells Fargo has banks in 23 states, mostly in the West and Midwest, and it has mortgage banking operations in all 50 states. Biller said the bank is in eight of the 10 fastest growing states.

"We are already in most of the places we want to be," he said.
