In Brief: Wells Mortgage Unit Promotes President

DES MOINES - Wells Fargo Home Mortgage announced Tuesday that Peter J. Wissinger has been named its chief executive officer.

Mr. Wissinger, 46, has been president and chief operating officer since January 2000. In his new role he will continue to oversee finance, emerging markets, and all sales and operations for all units, which include retail lending and institutional lending. He will report to Mark Oman, group executive vice president of the San Francisco-based parent company, Wells Fargo & Co.

A 24-year veteran of the mortgage industry, Mr. Wissinger joined what was then Norwest Mortgage in 1984 as vice president and branch manager and rose to regional manager, division manager, and national production manager in the retail production channel. In November 1998 he was promoted to group managing director, overseeing retail, servicing, and institutional lending sales and operations.

"This is a well-deserved promotion," Mr. Oman said in a news release. "Pete has more than proven his ability to lead our organization, and his new responsibilities are a natural progression of his important role."

Mr. Wissinger "has been a guiding force in many of the strategies that have helped Wells Fargo Home Mortgage earn its leadership position in the industry," Mr. Oman added.
