Independent Bank Corp. in Mass. Appoints New Chairman

Independent Bank Corp. (INDB) in Rockland, Mass,, has named Donna L. Abelli chairman of the company and its commercial banking unit, Rockland Trust Co.

Abelli, 54, succeeds Thomas J. Teuten, 72, who retired from the board after reaching the company's mandatory retirement age for directors, the $5 billion-asset Independent Bank said Friday. She is the first female chairman in the bank's 105-year history.

A certified public accountant, Abelli has been a director of both the company and the bank since 2005 and served as chairman of the audit committee since 2009. She previously served on an interim basis as the chief financial officer for two publicly traded companies and various private businesses.

Teuten had been a director of Rockland Trust since 1975 and a director of the holding company when it was formed in 1986. He was named chairman of both in July 2003.
