James River Bankshares Names Executive

SOUTHEAST

James River Bankshares of Suffolk, Va., has promoted four employees to key posts.

Beverly A. Adams was named vice president and controller of the $405.2 million-asset company, which owns four Virginia banks.

She was senior vice president and chief financial officer of its First Colonial Bank, which is based in Hopewell.

Ms. Adams joined First Colonial in 1990 as controller.

Tracy J. Nelms was named vice president-operations. She had been executive vice president of the company's technology subsidiary, James River Support, since 1996, when James River bought her previous employer, Bank of Isle of Wight in Smithfield.

Ms. Nelms will be responsible for operational procedures and policies.

Kathy Peebles succeeded Ms. Nelms at James River Support. She will be responsible for item processing, bookkeeping, wire transfer, cash management, and ATM administration.

Ms. Peebles was executive vice president of James River Bank in Waverly, Va. She had joined its predecessor, Bank of Waverly, in 1976 in its accounting department.

Barbara Scheepers was promoted to vice president and will manage human resources and payroll.

Ms. Scheepers, who joined the company in June, was a vice president at Jefferson National Bank of Charlottesville, Va., where she was responsible for operations, human resources, marketing and facilities management.

She had come to Jefferson from Chesapeake Bank Corp., where she was secretary and earlier vice president and cashier of its Chesapeake Bank and Trust Co.
