JBS Associates sees bad checks soar 19%.

RINGWOOD, N.J. -- JBS Associates, a provider of check-guarantee services at 37,000 retailer locations, said the volume of bounced checks has risen this year.

JBS said it protected its clients from $150.9 million in bad or potentially bad checks during the first seven months of 1992, up 19% from the same period of 1991, while its volume of guaranteed checks rose only 10%

The rate of bad-check growth was more than double the 7.7% recorded for all of 1991.

The totals include potentially bad checks that register "hits" on JBS' bad-check file and were declined at the point of sale.
