The Kansas Bankers Association has endorsed a suite of identity theft detection and recovery products from the Shoreview, Minn., check printer Deluxe Corp.
The endorsement, which Deluxe announced Friday, is the trade group's first for such software.
Deluxe said the endorsement of its Deluxe ID TheftBlock 2.0 suite could prompt banks to become more proactive about offering customers protection from the growing threat of identity theft.
The products provide credit report analysis and monitoring, can notify people of changes to their credit reports, and reimburse victims for some expenses related to repairing a stolen identity.
The software "helps financial institutions build consumer trust and strengthen relationships while protecting against losses and providing revenue," Luann Widener, the president of Deluxe's financial services division, said in a press release.
The Kansas group has 342 member companies.
The average identity theft victim's loss last year was $6,383, according to Javelin Strategy and Research, a Pleasanton, Calif., market research company; on average consumers had to cover about 7% of that total.
