Kount Files Patent Infringement Suit

Kount Inc., a Boise, Idaho, company that makes antifraud technology, said it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against iovation Inc.

The patent was issued in February 2008 and covers specific methods for identifying and locating a customer computer involved in an online transaction, Kount said last week.

Kount identified several iovation products — including ReputationManager and ReputationShield — that it believes infringe the patent.

Scott Olson, a spokesman for iovation, said the Portland, Ore., company is confident about the outcome.

"We have strong intellectual property issued prior to Kount's and intend to aggressively defend our leadership position in fighting online fraud and abuse," Olson said by e-mail.
