Kwedit Inc. has launched a digital credit service for online games.
The Mountain View, Calif., company's Kwedit Direct and Kwedit Promise systems allow users to purchase virtual items in online games such as Three Rings Design Inc.'s "Puzzle Pirates," and then pay later through retail locations such as 7-Eleven Inc. stores. Users can also mail a payment or use its "Pass the Duck" feature to send the bill to someone else.
"Most teenagers and the 25% of American households that do not have a credit or debit card — or who would prefer not to use them online because of concerns over privacy, security or financial responsibility — have been locked out of the exploding virtual goods markets," Danny Shader, Kwedit's chief executive, said in a press release Thursday.
