Legal Sea Foods CEO Named Director at Boston Fed

Roger S. Berkowitz, the chief executive of Legal Sea Foods, has been elected to the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.

The announcement was made Tuesday by Century Bancorp Inc. of Medford, Mass., where Berkowitz is a director. His appointment to the Fed board requires Berkowitz to relinquish the board seat at Century. Berkowitz has been a director at Century Bank since 1989 and at its holding company since 1996.

"We owe a debt of gratitude to Roger for 22 years of service," said Marshall M. Sloane, the chairman of Century Bancorp. "During his tenure, the company's approach to banking has grown and evolved. His vision, values and commitment to the community combined with his deep knowledge of the restaurant industry, have contributed greatly to the direction of our company."

Berkowitz' father founded Legal Sea Foods as a fishmarket in 1950 and opened the first restaurant in Cambridge, Mass. in 1968. Roger Berkowitz took over as CEO in 1992 and since then the Boston-based company has expanded into several new markets, including New York, Atlanta and Washington, D.C.
