Liberty Bank, Chicago names Smigiel CEO.

William J. Smigiel has been named president and chief executive of Liberty Bank for Savings, Chicago.

Mr. Smigiel was named chief operating officer in 1987 and became president in 1990.

He began his banking career with Liberty as a part-time teller in 1972, and over the past 22 years was engaged in most activities at the bank.

In 1982, he established the bank's personnel department, developing hiring and review procedures that laid the ground-work for the bank's human resources program. He later headed the marketing department, mapping out strategies that helped the bank grow from $300 million to $550 million of assets in the last ten years.

C.W. Smigiel remains as chairman of the board and continues in a full-time position.
