The Finnish handset maker Nokia Corp. is working with the near-field communication technology developer Proxama Ltd. to develop loyalty and advertising applications.
Proxama, based in the U.K., said Tuesday that NFC applications that consumers can use to tap tags on posters and other displays to download coupons, videos and other content will be included in Nokia's new smartphones, including its C7 model.
"NFC is going to give mobile phones a completely new lease [on] life that will bring consumers greater empowerment and enhanced brand and retail experiences," Sixten Sandstrom, the director of global ecosystems at Nokia, said in a Proxama press release.
