M&T Bank in Buffalo has changed the name of its commercial property and casualty insurance agency to harmonize with its intention to expand the agency from western New York to the bank's recently acquired markets in the Middle Atlantic states.
Matthews, Bartlett & Dedecker, Inc. was renamed M&T Insurance Agency Inc., the company said Thursday. The agency remains a subsidiary of M&T Bank and a part of the M&T Investment Group, which is led by executive vice president Mark J. Czarnecki.
"We've changed the name in order to more closely affiliate the agency with M&T Bank," Mr. Czarnecki said in a press release. "The name change will enable the insurance agency to expand throughout" the areas in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia where M&T has bought banks, he said.
John Rumschik, a former Matthews Bartlett vice president, was named president and chief operating officer of M&T Insurance Agency. Gerald C. Saxe, formerly president of Matthews Bartlett, has been appointed vice chairman of the M&T Insurance Agency board of directors.
M&T Bank bought Matthews Bartlett in 2000. In 2003, the agency bought Lounsbury Insurance Agency, a Syracuse, N.Y., property and casualty business.
M&T Bank is the principal bank subsidiary of Buffalo-based M&T Bank Corp., which has assets of $52 billion. M&T serves customers in more than 650 branches in New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, and the District of Columbia.
