MasterCard image system used in Latvia.

NEW YORK - MasterCard International said banks in Latvia have begun using MasterCom, the electronic imaging system that speeds retrieval of transaction documents when needed to resolve problems or disputes.

Servo, a Stockholm-based credit card processor, will handle the chargeback requests for the four major Latvian financial institutions: Riga Commerz Bank, Joint Stock Commercial Bank/Baltija, LandBank of Latvia, and Latvian State Savings Bank. The requests are transmitted via MasterCard's Banknet communcations system.

Extending MasterCom to Latvia was "a natural step," since Swedish banks began using it in September 1992, said Hans Lundivk of Servo, which serves banks in Sweden and the Baltic states.
