MasterCard Names Cairns International Markets President, Replacing MacNee

MasterCard Inc., the world's second-largest payments network, named Ann Cairns president of international markets and Walt Macnee vice chairman.

Cairns will start on Aug. 22 from Alvarez & Marsal Inc., a consulting company, and report to Chief Executive Officer Ajay Banga, Purchase, New York-based MasterCard said today in a statement. She will manage all markets and customer-related activities outside the U.S., where MasterCard got 58 percent of its revenue in 2010, according to Bloomberg data.

Cairns previously worked for Dutch lender ABN Amro Group NV and Citigroup Inc., the third-largest U.S. bank, MasterCard said. She will replace Macnee, who had the job since 2008. He will become vice chairman on Aug. 22 and handle "various senior client and government relationships," the company said.

"Ann is a proven leader with a track record of delivering outstanding results," Banga said in the statement. "Her leadership, extensive financial-services expertise and global experience will benefit our customers, and bring value to our company."
