Mellon Puts Capital In Training Company

PITTSBURGH - Mellon Ventures Inc., the venture capital subsidiary of Mellon Financial Corp., said it is the lead equity investor in a second round of venture capital funding for Simtrex Corp., a company that trains employees in dealing with customers.

The StarTrainer software from Atlanta-based Simtrex lets customers simulate customer contact in using their own personal computers and phones. Employees interact with a synchronized, recorded human voice to learn techniques for effective call-center customer service and transaction execution.

Mellon announced in January that it had licensed Simtrex's StarTrainer software. The software company, which was founded in 1998, has also licensed its simulation product to America Online and Dell Computer Corp.
