Mellon Puts Papa in Charge of a Second Region

Mellon Bank, a subsidiary of Pittsburgh-based Mellon Bank Corp., has named Ralph J. Papa chairman and chief executive officer of its 37-branch commonwealth region.

He will remain chairman, president, and CEO of the 27-branch central region.

The commonwealth region consists of branches in Dauphin, Franklin, Lancaster, York, and Cumberland counties in south central Pennsylvania. The central region has branches in Blair, Centre, Clinton, Huntingdon, Lycoming, Mifflin, and Union counties.

In the commonwealth region, Mr. Papa will succeed Stephen R. Burke, who is expected to retire March 1 but remain a regional director. Mr. Burke, now also the region's president, will be succeeded by David B. Skerpon, manager of its banking division. Mr. Skerpon will also be the region's chief operating officer.
