Metro, CU End Spat Over Scarlet Letter

Metro Bank in Lemoyne, Pa., has agreed to drop its red M logo to settle a trademark lawsuit brought by Members 1st Federal Credit Union.

The Mechanicsburg, Pa., credit union has long used a distinctive red M to promote its brand. A change in the bank's logo is the basis for last week's termination of a suit filed in June 2009 by the $1.9 billion-asset credit union, filed after the bank rolled out its new brand using a similar M.

The suit claimed that Metro purposefully piggybacked on the credit union's M campaign. The logos were similar but not identical.

Officials at Members 1st were not available to comment.
