Michigan Credit Union Seeks 'Spokester'

Michigan First Credit Union, the latest credit union to launch a Young & Free marketing campaign, is searching for a "spokester."

The Young & Free campaign was designed by Currency Marketing of Chilliwack, British Columbia.

The first such campaign was run for Common Wealth Credit Union of Lloydminster, Alberta, in 2007. At the start of the campaign, the financial institution runs a contest to hire a creative young adult as its spokesperson. Contestants create financial education videos and blog posts and the winner is hired to continue doing so for a year.

The term "spokester" was coined by the first contest winner in Alberta, Larissa Walkiw.

"The online job search format where the public votes is completely new to Michigan First," Linda Douglas, the credit union's vice president of marketing, said in a press release Friday. "We are excited to see what the young creative talent in Michigan has to offer."
