Assets of money market mutual funds rose 0.86%, to $1.252 trillion, in the week ended Aug. 19, the Investment Company Institute reported.

The growth of retail money funds narrowly outpaced that of institutional funds. Retail fund assets grew 0.88%, to $761.99 billion. The total includes $622.77 billion in taxable portfolios, up $5.41 billion, and $139.22 billion in tax-exempt portfolios, up $1.2 billion.

Institutional portfolios' assets rose 0.84%, to $490.18 billion. Taxable portfolios reached $444.22 billion, up $3.82 billion. Tax-exempt portfolios held $45.96 billion, up $280.9 million.
