MPayy Launches App for Android System

The alternative-payment processor mPayy Inc. on Thursday announced a mobile payment app for handsets that run the Android operating system from Google Inc.

"We realize we're a little ahead of the curve, but that puts us in a good spot as merchants and billers of all sizes work to build out mobile commerce offerings and pursue alternative payments that don't rely on card networks," Conrad M. Sheehan, mPayy's founder and chief executive, said in a press release.

MPayy, of Chicago, offers free person-to-person payments between members, and low-cost merchant processing using a combination of e-commerce, mobile technology and automated clearing house services.

MPayy has financial backing from U.S. Bancorp of Minneapolis.
