Mr. Mucci, 56, will join New York Life International on Oct. 8, succeeding Joseph Gilmour, who has left the company for reasons it did not disclose.

Mr. Mucci will be in charge of operations for all of the unit's eight markets: Argentina, China, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand. He also will join New York Life's executive management committee.

Mr. Mucci worked at Hartford Life, most recently as head of its group benefits division. Earlier he spent five years at MassMutual, where he led its disability income business.

New York Life International also promoted two executives who will work with Mr. Mucci. The unit's two regional chief executives, William Beaty and John Harrison, are now vice chairmen.

All three executive changes were announced Wednesday.
