National City Corp., Cleveland, has promoted Janis Lyons to head of corporate accounting.

Ms. Lyons had been employed in the bank's investor relations department since 1989.

John D. Gellhausen, vice president in corporate planning, succeeds Ms. Lyons as manager of financial communications and investor relations. Mr. Gellhausen, who joined National City in 1995, was the lead analyst on its acquisition of Integra Corp., Pittsburgh.

In addition, the bank hired William L. Roland as head of the employee benefits division of institutional trust.

Mr. Roland was vice president of investment management and employee benefits services at First National Bank of Chicago, a subsidiary of First Chicago NBD Corp.

Before joining First Chicago, he was senior vice president and manager of employee benefits services at Bank IV Financial Services, a subsidiary of Fourth Financial Corp., Wichita, Kan.
