Navy, GSA Open Smart Card Center

The Navy and the General Services Administration joined forces in a Smart Card Technology Center unveiled last week at GSA headquarters.

"Rather than Navy and GSA each establishing its own separate place, as might have been done in the past, we collaborated," said GSA Administrator David J. Barram. The two agencies announced an effort last year to put integrated circuit cards in all federal workers' hands.

The tech center offers hands-on demonstrations of multiple applications from eight vendor companies. 3-G International Inc. of Springfield, Va., was contracted as the system integrator.
