NBS Forms Group for Card-Based Products

NBS Technologies, a Canadian manufacturer of point of sale equipment, has formed a group to manage the growth of its card-based products.

The NBS Personalization Systems Group will include businesses previously operated as NBS Card Technology and NBS Imaging Systems, the Toronto-based company said.

The new unit will be led by Paul Smith, currently president of NBS Card Technology.

NBS Personalization will work with markets for applications such as credit, debit, and stored value transaction processing, identification and verification programs, loyalty programs, security access, and control.

"It strengthens our overall group within NBS," said Mr. Smith. "We'll be able to do a better job of supplying better hardware pieces and developing new offerings in areas such as health care."

Mr. Smith said that one such possibility would include "building activities in hospitals that are still heavily paper-oriented and are looking for more efficient ways of handling their business."

NBS Technologies uses digital imaging to capture and retrieve photos and biometric information. Its chief competitor is International Verifact, also based in Canada. The company also has operations in the United Kingdom.
