NCR Acquires DVD Kiosk Operator

NCR Corp. has purchased the DVD rental kiosk operator DVDPlay Inc.

DVDPlay, of Campbell, Calif., operates 1,300 DVD kiosks in North America. With the acquisition, which was announced Thursday, NCR will have 3,800 kiosks deployed by yearend.

NCR, of Duluth, Ga., has a long history of serving the financial services industry and is one of the top automated teller machine makers, but has made efforts in recent years to build on its core self-serve technology to expand into nonbanking markets.

"Our acquisition of DVDPlay accelerates NCR's growth in the DVD-rental business as we expand our operations," Alex Camara, the vice president and general manager of NCR Entertainment, said in a press release.

The price of the acquisition was not disclosed.
