The Dayton, Ohio, automated teller machine manufacturer NCR Corp. has agreed to use payment processing software from Postilion Inc., a S1 Corp. unit.

S1 said Tuesday that NCR plans to use the software in its Toronto data center to serve Canadian banks, credit unions, and retailers.

NCR is upgrading its Canadian point of sale terminals and other hardware to accept smart cards using the Europay, MasterCard, Visa security standard that Canada is adopting; the standard is widely used in Europe and Asia.

The Postilion software also will help retailers meet the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard for protecting transaction data, S1 said.

Postilion targets its products at small financial companies. S1's flagship product, the Enterprise suite, is aimed at big banks. In January the Atlanta vendor split itself into three units to give more prominence to business lines such as Postilion that it said had been largely overshadowed in recent years.
