USA Technologies is teaming up with ViVOtech, a provider of contactless proximity payment reader and NFC (Near Field Communications) mobile phone payment technologies, to bring NFC capabilities to USAT’s vending machine cashless payment systems.
The agreement will provide NFC capabilities to USAT’s e-Port cashless terminals for vending machines. NFC is best known for its association with several mobile phone contactless payment offerings – including Visa’s – but the ViVOtech collaboration would enable other reader-enabled devices like contactless cards (credit, debit and prepaid) as well as key fobs.
USA Technologies has already purchased more than 2,000 contactless payment readers from ViVOtech, and is following up with another order of 8,000 to be delivered in 2008. These readers accept all major credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover) with both magnetic swipe and contactless technologies.
