OTS pushes to increase minority lending.

WASHINGTON -- The Office of Thrift Supervision has announced a program aimed at pushing thrifts to increase lending to minority consumers as well as people with low and moderate incomes.

The program will strengthen coordination among the agency, the industry, and community groups in reaching out to targeted customers, the OTS said.

"We have urged the industry to take advantage of community development opportunities that exist within their communities and, at the same time, to improve their performance in these critical areas," said Jonathan Fiechter, acting OTS director.
