The Office of Thrift Supervision has launched a consumer response hot line.
The OTS said Tuesday that it will use the hot line to investigate complaints about the institutions it regulates and to seek a resolution from the affected thrift. The agency also will analyze the complaints to detect trends within a particular institution and across the industry.
"We are pleased to enhance our service so consumers can reach the OTS more easily than ever," Montrice Yakimov, the agency's managing director of compliance and consumer protection, said in a press release. "This is just the latest step in meeting our commitment to be a regulator that is expert, accessible and responsive to the needs of Americans who rely on our institutions to fulfill their financial services needs."
Consumers can call the hot line at 1-800-842-6929 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern time.
