PE Firms Complete Purchase of WorldPay

Advent International Corp. and Bain Capital LLC have completed their acquisition of a majority stake in RBS WorldPay, the payment processing arm of Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC.

The Boston private-equity firms disclosed the deal's closing Wednesday.

The firms announced plans to buy the payment processor for $3.2 billion in August. RBS retains a minority interest in the company, which has been renamed WorldPay, Advent said.

In 2009, WorldPay processed 6.8 billion transactions globally valued at more than $379.1 billion, Advent said.

Royal Bank of Scotland agreed last year to sell certain assets, including the WorldPay unit, to satisfy conditions of the multibillion government bailout it received during the financial crisis.
