PNC Pushes Security in Linking Credit Cards to Virtual Wallet

PNC Financial Services Group Inc. is encouraging its credit card customers to link their cards to its Virtual Wallet account to access a wider selection of security alerts.

The Virtual Wallet account is a combination of checking and savings accounts that are accessed primarily online. Its interface provides personal financial management tools to track spending and savings goals. Linking a credit card allows users to analyze their card spending on the same screen.

For card customers who do not use Virtual Wallet, PNC provides alerts for when transactions are posted, when a statement is ready, when a payment is due and when individual purchases or overall spending hit certain thresholds.

By linking to a virtual wallet account, customers can set up other alerts, Chris Lovett, PNC's product marketing manager for Virtual Wallet, said in a blog post July 14. PNC reiterated this message via Twitter on July 18.

"My favorite alert is the one I get when my card is used for a telephone or Internet purchase," Lovett wrote on PNC's blog for Virtual Wallet users. "As soon as it is used – I get a notification. If anyone ever tried to use it for something – Virtual Wallet will let me know."
