Pocahontas Buying North Ark. Bancshares

JONESBORO, Ark. — Pocahontas Bancorp, the parent of First Community Bank, announced that it will acquire $42 million-asset North Arkansas Bancshares Inc. of Newport, Ark., for $4.4 million in stock.

The acquisition would add one branch to the $484 million-asset company’s 20-branch network. In May, Pocahontas bought Walden/Smith Financial Group, a bank holding company in Jonesboro.

The North Arkansas deal was announced last week and is expected to close in the second quarter. North Arkansas’ president and chief executive, Brad Snider, would become a director of First Community.
