Prepaid Card Exec Returning to Medicine

Dr. Larry Brilliant, of Brilliant Color Cards in San Rafael, Calif. announced his retirement as chief executive.

Dr. Brilliant, an epidemiologist who helped eradicate small pox in India, will return to teaching medicine at the University of California at Berkeley and will increase his work on blindness prevention in Nepal through the Seva Foundation and the World Health Organization.

During his five years at the company, founded by brother Barry Brilliant, Dr. Brilliant built the business card printership into one of the leading manufacturers of prepaid telephone cards. He also introduced the recyclable bank card in conjunction with the Eastman Kodak Co.

Peter Biffar, president of Brilliant Color Cards and a former McKinsey consultant, will replace him as chairman.
