FLINT, Mich. - Martin Grunst has been named senior vice president and treasurer for Citizens Banking Corporation, a $7.8 billion bank holding company, operating Citizens Bank in Michigan and Illinois and F&M Bank in Wisconsin and Iowa. As such, he will be responsible for the corporation's investment, asset liability management, funds transfer pricing, wholesale lending and capital management functions.
In making the announcement, Charlie Christy, chief financial officer for the company commented, "Marty has both an extensive and impressive background in asset liability management. He brings a breadth of knowledge coupled with large bank experience that will add significant value to our company."
Prior to joining Citizens, Grunst was first vice president and asset liability manager for the retail line of business for Bank One Corporation. During his 12 years at Bank One, he also served as financial manager for business banking merger integration, was financial manager of commercial real estate lending for the east region, and was the financial manager for acquisition planning for Bank One credit card services. From 1992 - 1995 he was asset liability manager for the 22 banks in the Bank One's Ohio holding company, which included those in Michigan, Ohio, and Kentucky.
Grunst began his banking career in 1988 as manager of the secondary market function for Busey Bank in central Illinois. He is a chartered financial analyst and is a member of the Association for Investment Management and Research. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree in Economics. He has served as an instructor for the Illinois Banking Association Real Estate Lending and General Banking schools. He is a member of the Columbus Financial Analysts Society, and serves as trustee for the Heritage Foundation in Columbus, Ohio, and for the Luther High School North endowment fund.
